Frequently Asked Questions

What machine is required for the PEANUT® 2?

3-axis + CNC machine and end boring capability / PEANUT Mini Jig / PEANUT Jig.

What is the minimum panel size for the PEANUT® 2?

15.3mm and above.

Which hole is required for the PEANUT® 2?

The PEANUT® 2 requires a 6mm hole.

How much do you tighten the screw?

We recommend tightening up the screw until you feel resistance. The shoulder of the PEANUT® 2 should be flat on the panel? Tightness however can be adapted dependant on application.

What size screw is required for the PEANUT® 2?

The PEANUT® 2 requires a 3.5mm (US 6) gauge screw. The length depends on application, however it should be a minimum of 30mm (1 1/4 inch) so that the screw passes through the component. We would recommend a 50mm screw length where possible.

Does the PEANUT® 2 require any glue or other components?

A 3.5mm screw is used with the PEANUT® 2. Screw length depending on the application, however 50mm can be optimal. Glue can be used in the PEANUT® Slot to give a permanent fixing and to strengthen the joint.

Can the PEANUT® 2 be used for mitred joints?

Yes, however you will need to cut down the dowel end and use an appropriate size screw to secure it. The PEANUT® 2 Short has a shorter dowel end and so is more optimum for mitred joints.

Can the PEANUT® 2 be used for face-to-face fixing?

Yes, it can be used for this application without a screw if you are also using retaining screws. In this application, the PEANUT® 2 is used to align the fascia. Alternatively, you can cut the dowel end down and use an appropriate screw size.

How it Works

The PEANUT 2 is an invisible connector and the most robust fixing in the PEANUT® range.

Key Benefits

Design

The PEANUT 2 is made of a strong reinforced plastic and has rows of teeth around the dowel end to provide high gripping strength when inserted.

Self-clamping, invisible connector
Packs flat when pre-inserted
Creates an incredibly strong joint
Quick and simple assembly
Ability to reassemble many times
Designed from glass fibre reinforced nylon
Ideal for boring and insertion machines
PEANUT Jig and Mini Jig Compatible

Tooling Requirements

It is designed for end drilling machines and our wood working jigs for carpenters.

Once inserted, all panels made with PEANUT components can be packed flat and depending on the tightness of the joint, can be assembled with no tools.

A hole through the length of the component allows for a 3.5mm screw to be used, this provides a very strong core and further enhances the grip strength. By adjusting the screw tightness, the joint can be made tighter or looser, allowing woodworkers to achieve the perfect joint even after multiple reassemblies. The PEANUT® 2 has been designed with a shoulder to stop over-insertion and is perfectly calibrated for a tight joint in most situations.

The PEANUT® head has been specially designed to maximise ease of assembly and joint strength. Due to its dome shape, the PEANUT® head smoothly slides along the slot created by the T-shaped PEANUT® Cutter.

In assembly, the PEANUT head rides over the lip of the PEANUT® slot and slides to the end, this action creates a strong clamping force, pulling the two panels together from the inside.
